KATASTERISMI

KATASTERISMI

The symbols and myths, awaken unconscious instincts, forgotten ideas and values that govern our life, our history and our evolution.

The constellations (signs) and the planets that govern them have their own symbols and myths, which urge us to seek in our inner world the core values and the key players of the evolutionary history of our existence. The symbols of the constellations come from depictions of myths associated with them. The symbols of the planets, that symbolize the relationship between different elements of existence, were created by three astrological symbols: the Circle of the Spirit, the Crescent of the Soul and the Cross of the Substance. The symbol of the Sun was created from the circle of Completeness (and Chaos), where a dot was added in the middle, to symbolize the center (or focal point) of the emission of life forces.

image001Most of the constellations, and many of the stars that are in them, were for the ancient people heavenly entities and heroes that gods made them immortal. Poet Aratos (305-240 BC) played an important role in their immortality. King of Macedonia Antigonos Gonatas asked him to write the famous poem "Phenomena". He based his work on two books of the famous astronomer and mathematician Eudoxus of Knidos (408-355 BC) - the "Phenomena" and "Enoptron” - linked to rhyme the stars and constellations with Greek mythology. Since then the sky seems to be inhabited by a mythical, symbolic and romantic fairytale world.
In one of the myths the creation of our galaxy, home of the zodiac, is described. Father of Zeus, Saturn, swallowed all of his children so that no one could dethrone him like he did to his father Uranus. Saturn’s wife, Rhea, tricked him, giving him to swallow a stone wrapped in baby quilts instead of Zeus. Saturn, however, asked her to breastfeed him before she gives him to him. The milk from her breasts hit the rock with power and dispersed into the sky creating the Milky Way.

Art could not remain unmoved in the face of the great images that the Greek myths created. Many got inspired and created paintings and sculptures that are currently the most important art collections in the world by individuals and museums.
"Katasterismi" is a collection of artistic, handmade jewellery where each constellation is assigned by a combination of its zodiac and its planetary symbol. The modern shapes, which have many similarities with the modern technique of graffiti, end in an arrow indicating the way towards an opening and the entrance to a room of light, like that of myths and symbols of Greek mythology that include knowledge of thousands years. A place where you can search for the light of life, get inspired for Art and create in a timeless manner for our culture.

Uranus, fearing the great power of his children, tied them with chains deep into the earth. The Earth, seeing her children suffering, persuaded Cronus to cut his father genitals with a sickle and assume the power of heaven.

When Saturn came into power, he freed the Titans, but he didn’t free the Cyclops and the Hecatonchires because he was afraid of them. However, Uranus cursed him to suffer the same from his children so Cronus, to protect himself, swallowed every male child on the day of its birth.  First were born Hestia, Demeter and Hera and then Hades (or Pluto) and Poseidon whom he swallowed. When Earth (Rea) gave birth to Jupiter, she hid him in a cave in mountain Psiloritis at Crete island called “Hidaion andron”, and instead of the Jupiter gave Cronus a stone wrapped in cloth to swallow.

image163Mythology:

Is the planet that rules the sign of  Pisces. Is the son of the Moon and Cronus, who swallowed his children. Poseidon was saved when Cronus was forced by Zeus to throw him with his brother Hades up. Then he allied with his brothers, the Cyclops and the Hecatonchires against Saturn and the Titans.

The Cyclops gave Poseidon the Triaina (Trident) as a weapon, and when the Titans were defeated, the three brothers shared by lot the world, Poseidon became ruler of the liquid element, i.e. of the seas, rivers and lakes.

He was the second God in power after Jupiter on Olympus. He was quarrelsome and short-tempered, which is why most people feared him, but he often saved them in cases of sinking and flooding.

He fell in love with the beautiful Nereid, Amphitrite when he saw her dancimg on the island of Naxos with nymphs, and attempted to be with her sexually. She refused and went to mount Atlas to avoid him. Poseidon then sent as a Messenger the Dauphin, who persuaded her for his intentions. Then she accepted and gave him three children.

Poseidon with his Triaina, which corresponds to the scepter of Zeus, made all kinds of miracles. The Triaina (Trident) symbolizes the three expressions of the liquid element: the salty water of the sea, the sweet water of the rivers and the brackish water of the Lakes.

The myth says that Poseidon by one tap of  his Triaina on a rock, created the first horses, put bridles on them  and showed to the people their usefulness. Whenever Poseidon beat with his Triaina, the Earth was trembling. That’s why the people thought that Poseidon was the God of earthquakes too
