"If it's not a flood
from heavenly forces
, then what are
these flowers?"

NIKIFOROS BRETTAKOS
"Flowering Plateau"

Sychrotismi" is where picture meets poetry and jewellery micro sculpture in order to hymn the magic of Greek nature.

Photos shot by the artist photographer John Papamatthaiou. The sensitive eyes of his soul helped him see a unique perspective of the wildflowers of the Greek Earth. He photographed them in a way that now they themselves say: "Here we are, the daily, unique and eternal jewels of Nature"! These are the flowers that we often pass by without even looking at them! They, however, gain life with the help of the photographer’s magical lens, inspiring the artist to search for poetry verses that seem to be written just for them. This is how the pictures were put together with poetry, leaving the viewer to feel and judge this union.

This union has sought its completion in the micro-sculpture of jewellery. Wonderful wildflowers transformed from earth ornaments to small jewellery sculptures, human ornaments that remind us of the unsurpassed beauty of Mother Nature. Photos, poetry and jewellery together constitute a humble pilgrimage to greatness. It is nature that makes the mind to dream, the heart to fall in love, the soul to be flooded with the blessing of God and the man to become a small creator.

Through photography we gained the ability to discover what is aesthetically beautiful. Through poetry, the language of emotions, we were able to understand, feel and admire this beauty and then, through the jewellery creation, we gained the ability to touch.

Let these "Sychrotismi" become the message to all of us, humans that will bring us closer to Nature and will help us stop its reckless destruction. Let us protect her and love her all over again.

Sophia Pavlakou

"At daybreak I went out and sat in a field and began to converse with Nature, while Man rested peacefully under the covers of sleep. I lay down on the green grass and my thoughts turned to these questions: "Is Truth Beauty? Is Beauty Truth?"

And through my thoughts I traveled far, far away from people, and my imagination pulled back the veil of matter so that my innermost self could come to light. Then my soul spread out and brought me closer to Nature and her secrets, and my senses opened wide to taste the language of her wonders.

Oh! dark shivering in the root and in the leaves!

Stand alert in the crowd of silence,

raise your head from the curved hands,

your will to be born and tell me again

 the words that touched and mixed the blood like an embrace;

and let your desire lean deep like the shadow of a walnut tree

and flood us with the waste of your hair

from the fluff of the kiss on the leaves of the heart.

A flower of the garden, set apart from the others,

a secret jealousy that they looked at, a mad joy that they bore.

But where he was proud of it and valued it,

on the dew, on its musky foliage

, a scorching wind blew and a wind of the Basque Country,

which sucked its dew, took its scent

and laid it withered and pale on the ground.

Weep for it that has withered, weep for it that weeps
